OUR ADVISORS

Shaykh Noman Hussain

Shaykh Noman Hussain is the Resident Scholar at the Islamic Foundation in Villa Park, IL. Born and raised in Chicago, Shaykh Noman began his pursuit of knowledge locally and completed the memorization of the Qur’an.

To further his learning in the Islamic sciences, Shaykh Noman traveled to South Africa where he graduated at the top of his class from Darul Uloom Zakariyya in Johannesburg, South Africa. Shaykh Noman has served as an Imam & Resident Scholar for over a decade. He started the first full-time hifdh program in Milwaukee, was a high school instructor, and was a guest lecturer at different universities. He also served as a volunteer chaplain at local hospitals. He has been particularly active in interfaith initiatives, youth engagement, community outreach, and local civic engagements. Shaykh Noman has also been honored to lead Hajj and umrah groups annually for the past decade. 

Imam Tahir Anwar

Imam Tahir Anwar is an American Muslim scholar and preacher. Born in London, England, he has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1983.After completing his religious studies, Imam Tahir has served the Bay Area Muslim community since 2000.  

He also teaches Islamic Law at the renowned Zaytuna College, America’s first Muslim liberal arts college located in Berkeley, CA. In addition, he is the founding board member of Averroes High School, the Bay Area’s first Muslim high school. He is currently the chairman of the board of NISA, North-American Islamic Shelter for the Abused, an organization that works towards alleviating issues related to domestic violence. He has a passion for community service. He served on the Human Rights Commission for the City of San Jose for over 5 years and on the Human Relations Commission for the County of Santa Clara for one year. He also leads a group for Hajj each year.

Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda

Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda is the founder, director, and an instructor at Qalam. He is a faculty member at the Qalam Seminary where he teaches Sahih Bukhari, advanced Tafseer, Usul, Fiqh, and Balagha.

He has completed an extensive study of the life of the Prophet ﷺ in the Seerah Podcast. He annually teaches the Seerah Intensive and leads groups on the Seerah Umrah tour and a visit to Masjid Al-Aqsa. Born and raised in Dallas, he currently resides there with his wife and three children. He memorized the Qur’an in Karachi at an early age. After high school, he returned to Karachi to study the Islamic sciences full-time at Jamia Binoria where he specialized in Fiqh and Tafsir. He graduated from the rigorous ‘alim program in 2001 at the top of his class. He also attained a B.A. and M.A. in Arabic from Karachi University while completing a Masters in Islamic Studies from the University of Sindh. After returning home, he taught at the local university and Islamic schools and served as the Imam in the Dallas area.

Ustadh AbdelRahman Murphy

Ustadh AbdelRahman Murphy is an instructor at Qalam, and the Director of Roots Community Space. He is a faculty member at the Qalam Seminary where he teaches Aqeedah and Tazkiya. Born and raised in Chicago, Ustadh AbdelRahman has Bachelor's Degrees in Education and Religious Studies.

He has pursued traditional Islamic studies at the Alimiyah level over the last decade with numerous teachers, primarily under the mentorship of Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda. He has been serving the community in a full-time capacity in various roles such as a youth director, Islamic Studies teacher, chaplain, and imam. He currently resides in Dallas, TX with his wife and two children.
